Self-Development. There are thousands of articles and techniques and courses on this important topic. Where do you begin? I have narrowed it down to the 5 most powerful techniques to get you started. Read through each section and choose the areas of your life that you want to improve.
Let’s get going!
1) Positive Affirmations
Almost every self-help and personal development plan that has ever existed includes positive affirmations in some guise and this is for a very good reason, they really work. These small inspirational messages to the self are key to slowly changing the way we see the world around us and ourselves and keep us focused on the process of change. Write them down and tape them on your mirror, in your car, or on your wall. When you find yourself talking negative, repeat an affirmation a few times to get back on track.
2) Meditation – Connecting to the Inner Self
Meditation is the key to self discovery – Giving yourself the time and space to understand what it is you really want and time to properly consider events that happen. Such understanding is vital in order to be able to determine what goals and changes you are looking to achieve on your journey. There are different types of meditations. I really like Yoga Nidra. There are simple short relaxation meditations as well as longer therapeutic meditations. Explore them and try different ones. YouTube is good for looking for meditations to try out for free.
3) Visualization – Practicing for Success
Visualization is the practice of actively playing through scenarios in your mind, exploring possibilities and repeating until you have it practice perfect. This technique is used by athletes and top performers throughout the world to gain that winning edge. You can too! Visualize where you want to be or what you want to achieve.Visualize it over and over. Is it winning a 5K? Being a top producer in your business? Visualize it!
4) Journaling – Writing Dreams and Revisiting Your Journey
Journaling is the process of regularly writing your thoughts, your dreams, milestones, events and feelings down on paper. There are many different kinds of journals you can choose to keep but it is a powerful process that provides the opportunity to explore things in a measured way. It can also be fun to look back and discover how far you have come!.
5) Exercise – Invigorating Body and Soul
Our bodies are the temple in which we must live our existence. Our mind and body are linked, neither can prosper if the other is neglected. It is an undeniable truth that our physical wellbeing relies on regular exercise to invigorate our body and minds. Without it both will stagnate and start to fail. But exercise need not be something to fear but rather something to start enjoying, you just need to find what suits you. Do you like the outdoors? walking, hiking, biking, skating, canoeing are a few. Not a fan of the outdoors? How about walking on a treadmill while watching TV or listening to music? I like to hike outdoors, but prefer the indoors due to allergies or climate conditions. Mix it up. Hate jogging? Maybe dancing would work for you. There is something for everyone.
Get Set, GO! You’re on your way to more success!
